Each session is tailored to the client's need. There is no price change on the different types of massage that can be given. You will have the chance to enjoy special additions such as heated towels and table warmers, all apart of the relaxing experience. The following are the modalities you can expect from MYo massage therapy.
If you are a beginner, this is what you might expect for your first massage. It is most commonly offered and best known. Smooth gliding strokes, kneading or petrissage, pressing, friction, and sometimes tapping or striking called tapotement are all used to create a relaxed feeling. Firm but gentle pressure can be added to ease muscle tension and overall sense of well-being.
This therapy is not like a standard massage. Where you might expect long strokes or firm pressure, this modality consists of long holds and stimulation of the nervous system through the therapists hands to the clients head, neck and spine. It encourages the movement of cerebral spinal fluid, bathing the body in nutrients and allowing the healing process to start on injuries new and old. It is commonly used to treat neck and back pain, migraine and other headaches, TMJ Syndrome, and fibromyalgia. It is also excellent for brain injuries, including closed head injuries, concussion, stroke and mini-stroke as well as conditions like ADHD, Autism and anxiety disorders.
This is a therapy that utilizes static pressure on specific myofascial points to relieve pain. This technique manipulates the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons and connective tissue) to balance the central nervous system. By mixing in Swedish techniques and stretching, this modality is great for rehabilitation or working through those stubborn, problem areas.
Prenatal and Postpartum
Massage therapy is excellent for prenatal and postpartum mothers and their babies. Decreased anxiety benefits the growing baby, and makes for a happier newborn. A special BodyCushion is used to support the mother and her growing body, allowing her to lay face down on the massage table for ultimate relaxation. Pregnancy massage has been found to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints. Popular when other choices, like medication, are limited. Postpartum massage helps reduce the incidence of depression in post-partum mothers. It assists the body to return to its pre-pregnancy state, encourages milk production, restores the skin's elasticity, and helps achieve hormone balance. Postpartum massage also offers a chance for the new mother to take some much needed time to rest and relax.
